If you don’t read The Hills Are Burning,{{1}} you probably missed AJ’s most recent post, “Steppage.” She nicely illustrates just how fucking annoying it is when someone steps on you on the radio. So, here’s a little primer for you newbies, so you’re not the jerk annoying the shit out of everyone on set.
- When someone else is talking on the radio, don’t press the transmit button.
That’s it.
Seriously, that’s it.
Wait until the other end has finished talking. If you don’t no one will hear you or the other person. It’s doubly useless. And the noise is obnoxious. And you’re obnoxious, for creating that noise.
So just don’t, okay?

Then there’s “keying”….which I accidentally do ALL THE TIME when I’m carrying my layout board/mats around. The PAs usually look for me first when that happens. :-/
