Just over a week ago, I related an anecdote about the producer’s assistant indirectly checking that the intern was doing her job correctly.
A lot of people took exception to the assistant’s methods. Final Girl’s comment was typical:
What a passive agressive moron. I hate people.
I have to admit, this surprised me. At the time, everybody in the office laughed at this assistant’s joke, including the intern.
This leads me to wonder, did I fail to convey the levity of the situation? Or are my readers correct, and the guy is actually a douche?
These are questions every writer must struggle with.

Cool!
Oh! Yah- we didn’t get it was just a joke. That seems like something real that’s happened to all of us. In which case, yah, that person would be a passive-agressive dick. With an inferiority complex.
Ah. Yes. If the office was able to register levity, it probably was funny and just didn’t come across on the internet. The anger comes from a personal place tho, I’ve been the subject of real indirect micro-managing; I don’t like being tricked into admitting mistakes to things that don’t matter, because those things really don’t matter, and you just wanted me to admit incompetence. There’s no room for error at the bottom and being at your boss’s condescending mercy is the worst part of it.
BUT it is also the greatest blessing to be in an office that can take a joke. God knows that’s a rarity.
The whole thing seemed perfectly normal to me.
no, not a douche. Maybe just a paranoid, uptight guy that needs to relax and take a vacation… or get laid.
